Nash Heart Center Receives Awards from AHA and NCDR

Nash Heart Center Process Improvement Team

The Nash Heart Center Process Improvement Team has received awards from both the American Heart Association (AHA) and the National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) for remarkable efforts in protocol development. The Process Improvement (PI) Team is always striving to advance the quality care at Nash Heart Center.

The team received the 2017 AHA Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Center Quality Achievement Award and the 2017 NCDR Performance Achievement Award for their care of heart attack patients. The AHA awards hospitals for excellence in STEMI (ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction) treatment and for achievements in remote treatment of STEMI. One of Nash Heart Center’s remote treatment enhancements, for example, is its partnership with Nash County EMS to provide on-site diagnosis of STEMI and faster treatment upon arrival at the hospital. The NCDR also recognizes hospitals which provide outstanding care of myocardial infarction patients.

The PI Team is constantly seeking new ways to improve efficiency of heart care while keeping the best interests of cardiac patients a first priority. Members of the PI Team include Heather Hughes and Leiran Tillman, Registered Nurses in the Cardiopulmonary Support Unit; Scott Davenport, the manager of Cardiovascular Services; Tera Joyner, MI/Chest Pain Program Coordinator; Sarah Heenan, executive director of Nash Heart Center; Kelley Rose, Cath Lab RN; and Dale Griffin, program manager and training officer for Nash County EMS. With members from so many diverse areas of expertise, the PI Team is able to form interdisciplinary solutions to better serve the patients of Nash Heart Center.

The PI Team is just one example of the ever-present mindset of improvement here at Nash UNC Health Care. We are always looking to the future and adapting to provide better health care services to the people of our community.
