UNC Health Nash Welcomes New Member to the Board of Commissioners

The UNC Health Nash Board of Commissioners welcomed new member Gwen Wilkins at its October board meeting. Wilkins will fill a newly added board seat formed with the new lease agreement between the hospital and Nash County, which specifies two of the 15 hospital board seats may be filled by Nash County commissioners.  The lease agreement was signed by both parties in June.

“We are excited to welcome Gwen Wilkins to the Board of Commissioners,” said Dr. L. Lee Isley, president and CEO of UNC Health Nash.  “As a Nash County Commissioner who knows our community and its needs very well, her experience and perspective allows the hospital board to foster continuous improvement in the quality of care we provide for our community.”

Wilkins, a resident of Nash County for more than 25 years, has an extensive public service record. She currently serves as a Nash County Commissioner, a position she has held since 2021. Wilkins has also served on countless community, public and political boards and committees over the years, including the Strategic Twin Counties Education Partnership (STEP) board, the NC State MLK Jr. Commission (appointed by then NC Governor Beverly Purdue) and the My Sister’s House board.

In addition to her public service, Wilkins has also had an extensive professional career that includes experience with Fortune 500 companies such as The Washington Post, IBM, Kennemetal Inc. and Collins Aerospace. Wilkins is a graduate of NC Wesleyan University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Justice Studies.
