UNC Health Nash to Expand Service Offerings in Nashville and Middlesex

Last month, UNC Health Nash officially broke ground on its new seven-story inpatient tower, marking a major milestone in the hospital’s efforts to modernize care, improve operational efficiency, and better meet the evolving needs of the region. But that’s not the only big project UNC Nash has underway, as the hospital also has plans to expand service offerings in the Nashville and Middlesex areas of Nash County.

Later this month, UNC Health Nash will break ground on two new medical office buildings. The Nashville facility will be constructed on land off of Red Oak Road near US-64, while the Middlesex facility will be built on UNC Nash’s land at Middlesex Corporate Parkway, where UNC Nash currently operates a smaller primary care clinic.

“This is an exciting step in our efforts to better meet the health needs of the western Nash County community,” said UNC Health Nash President and CEO Dr. L. Lee Isley. “Through various surveys and data analysis, and in working with town and county officials, we identified a need for additional health services in these growing communities.  I am proud UNC Health Nash can help meet those needs and provide exceptional care close to home for our community members across our county.”

Both new medical buildings will house eight primary care providers, helping to increase access to primary care in Nash County. UNC Health Nash is hopeful that with new providers in these areas, residents will not have to drive to surrounding counties for care, and wait times to see a medical provider will improve.

In addition to a primary care office, the Nashville location will also feature an urgent care. UNC Health Nash officials say this will operate like the urgent care it just opened in front of the UNC Nash hospital in Rocky Mount in October 2024. This means patients will be seen on a walk-in basis, no appointment needed, though appointments will be available if patients prefer to reduce their potential wait time.

The Nashville urgent care will provide medical services for patients six months and older, serving as a convenient alternative to the emergency room for non-life-threatening conditions, such as minor cuts, sprains, cold and flu symptoms and other common ailments. The facility aims to reduce long wait times often associated with emergency rooms, offering more cost-effective, accessible, and timely care for patients.

With primary care services in Middlesex expanding to eight providers and moving into a new building, UNC Nash is currently exploring options for how to use its current facility on this site, including the possibility of converting it into an urgent care clinic.  For the last two years, UNC Nash has been rotating specialty providers such as Orthopedics and Cardiologists at its Middlesex clinic and will continue to expand those offerings as patient demand increases.

UNC Nash will host a ribbon cutting and grand opening event for both facilities when they officially open next summer. The Middlesex location is anticipated to open in July of 2026, while the Nashville location is expected to open in August 2026.
