Cancer Support Services & Programs

Find services and programs at Nash UNC to assist you through cancer diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care. Access care to strengthen your mind, body, and spirit including:

Cancer Nurse Navigator

Depend on your cancer navigator, a registered nurse with an oncology background, at Nash UNC for treatment coordination. Your navigator also will share knowledge and educational resources with you.

Hospice & Palliative Care

Consult our palliative care team to make you more comfortable while you’re in the hospital. You also can get home or facility care if you have a terminal condition. Hospice and palliative care ensures you and your family receives the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual care you need.

Cancer Resource Center & Education

Take advantage of the Cancer Resource Center at the Danny Talbott Cancer Center. Explore educational information and videos about early detection of cancer, genetic factors, types of cancer, treatment options, eating well during cancer treatments, and more.

Cancer Support Group

Meet with other cancer patients to share companionship, support, ideas, information, and inspiration. Support groups and events at Nash UNC include:

  • Living With and Beyond Cancer (general cancer support group)
  • Look Good, Feel Better (helps you cope with skin changes and hair loss)
  • UNC Cancer Center Networks Lunch and Learn

Financial Counseling & Assistance

Depend on financial counselors and social workers at the cancer center to help determine if you’re eligible for aid.

Cancer Patient Assistance Fund

Turn to the Patient Assistance Fund when you face financial hardship and transportation challenges during cancer treatments. If you’re in need and you meet specific eligibility criteria, you may receive help with:

  • Gas
  • Household expenses such as rent, mortgage, and utilities
  • Lymphedema therapy
  • Medication copay assistance
  • Nutritional supplements
  • Prosthetics, bras, and wigs
  • Treatment copays

Ask your social worker to help you with a Patient Assistance Fund request. Your social worker, along with the nurse navigator and financial counselor, will track your application.

CaringBridge

You can create a free, personalized CaringBridge web page. CaringBridge helps keep your family and friends up to date about your medical condition. Make a password-protected page that only the friends and family you invite can view.

Survivorship Program

Bridge the gap between active cancer treatment and post-treatment care with our Cancer Transitions: Get Back to Wellness program. Our trained team of experts will guide you through:

  • Exercise routines
  • Long-term medical management options
  • Nutrition plans
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Stress management methods

Cancer Care Fund

Nash Health Care Foundation funds many cancer support services and programs at Nash UNC. Give to the Foundation’s Cancer Patient Assistance Fund to support cancer patients in our community.
