When to Begin Pregnancy Classes

Start exploring prenatal classes by the time you are 24-weeks pregnant. Follow this timing to give yourself enough time to schedule and complete classes before your newborn arrives. If you have questions, call 252-962-8270.

Childbirth Education Class

Join our childbirth education class to feel secure in your knowledge and skills before you deliver. You’ll attend class once a week for four weeks. Contact our childbirth educator for information on virtual class options. Our childbirth education class is free for you and your support person and we would love for you to consider delivering your baby here with us at UNC Health Nash.

Your class follows the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA) education program. Expect to learn practices that combine several labor management methods, including some features of Lamaze. Our CAPPA-certified childbirth educator and nurse will teach you about:

  • Body changes during pregnancy
  • Nutrition guidance for you and your baby
  • Stages of labor and preparing for birth
  • Pain management techniques and medical treatments
  • Vaginal vs. Cesarean section (C-section) birth
  • Newborn care and Newborn provider selection
  • Breastfeeding 101
  • Postpartum care

Breastfeeding Class

Take our two-hour introductory session about breastfeeding. Count on our certified lactation consultant to share her expertise while teaching you basic techniques. Learn helpful tips you can use for a positive breastfeeding experience with your baby.

Lactation Consultation

Rely on trained, professional lactation consultants at Nash Women’s Center to help you learn how to breastfeed your baby. After delivery at UNC Health Nash, you’ll have access to our experts to talk about how to successfully start and maintain breastfeeding.

Postpartum and Baby Care Education

Thanks to the UNC Health Nash Foundation, we're able to offer postpartum education from Nurtured Nest to every patient and their family. These on-demand classes include guidance on:

  • Caring for your New Baby
  • Postpartum Care for the Birthing Parent
  • Postpartum Care for the Whole Family

Classes & Support Group Location

Childbirth and breastfeeding classes are open to you as an expectant or new mother, your babies, and support person. All classes and support groups meet in the Education Room of the Nash Women's Center.

Car Seat Safety

Purchase a child safety seat and make sure it is properly installed. Please make an appointment with your local fire or police department to have your seat properly installed, or have your installation inspected and approved.

Financial Assistance

Receive guidance on patient payment plans, self-pay discounts, charity care, and other financial need-based assistance from the financial counseling team at UNC Nash. Call 252-962-4090 for help.
