When to Begin Pregnancy Classes
Start exploring prenatal classes by the time you are 24-weeks pregnant. Follow this timing to give yourself enough time to schedule and complete classes before your newborn arrives. If you have questions, call 252-962-BABY (2229).
Childbirth Education Class
Join our childbirth education class to feel secure in your knowledge and skills before you deliver. You’ll attend class once a week for four weeks, or a one day Saturday class. Choose a class that fits your schedule. Our childbirth education class is free for you and your support person if you’re delivering your baby at Nash UNC.
Your class follows the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA) education program. Expect to learn practices that combine several labor management methods, including some features of Lamaze. Our CAPPA-certified childbirth educator and nurse will teach you about:
Tour the Women’s Center
You’ll also take a tour of the Nash Women’s Center during your birthing class so you’re familiar and comfortable with the environment. Get the facts about anesthesiology services, visitation, room service, mother-baby care, and more. The layout and rooms at the Women’s Center aim to meet the needs of you, your baby, and your family.

Take our two-hour introductory session about breastfeeding. Count on our certified lactation consultant to share her expertise while teaching you basic techniques. Learn helpful tips you can use for a positive breastfeeding experience with your baby.
Infant & Adult CPR Class
Learn infant, child, and adult life-saving CPR skills along with how to relieve choking. Our certified CPR instructor’s teachings match the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver® CPR practices.
Breastfeeding Support Group
Breastfeeding can be challenging if you work and have other family responsibilities. Find encouragement from your peers, discussion, and education about breastfeeding topics at the Breastfeeding Support Group at the Nash Women’s Center. The group meets on the third Wednesday of every month.
