Medical Telemetry Surgical Unit (MTSU)

MTSU is a 63 bed telemetry unit with high and low acuity, and 4/5:1 nurse ratio. Experience nursing through the lifespan in a wide range of patient populations, including:
•  Diabetes
•  Post surgical care (bowl resection, joint replacements and other ortho procedures, amputation, neuro, pediatric surgeries)
•  Telemetry
•  Stroke
•  Tracheostomy
•  Dialysis

Unit positions include:
•  Registered Nurses
•  Nursing Assistant
•  Monitor Technician
•  Secretary

MTSU New Grad Residency
Hospital nursing residency exposes you to numerous care areas including ED, Critical Care, Cardiac Cath Lab, Endoscopy, IV team and Case Management.
•  Participate in cohort classes that provides scheduled training as you transition from student nurse to professional nurse alongside your peers.
•  12-16 weeks unit specific orientation with assigned preceptor.

Cardiopulmonary Support Unit (CPSU)

CPSU is a 64 bed telemetry, fast-paced collaborative unit with a 4/5:1 nurse ratio. Experience a wide range of patient populations, including:

•  Chest Pain, ACS, MI, pre and post catheterization
•  CHF
•  Arrhythmias (Afib, SVT, Aflutter post cardioversion pacemaker insertion)
•  Stroke
•  Diabetes, DKA
•  Sepsis
•  Pneumonia
•  Respiratory Failure, COPD
•  Asthma
•  Flu
•  Bipap and long-term ventilators
•  Nephrology
•  Renal Failure (HD and PD)
•  Anemia, GI Bleed

Unit positions include:

Medical Imaging

UNC Health Nash offers many comprehensive medical imaging services across several different unit lines.

Radiography, commonly known as X-ray, uses special equipment to take diagnostic images of the bones.
•  Radiography is a 2 year program

Community College options:
•  Edgecombe Community College
•  Pitt Community College
•  Johnston Community College
•  Vance Granville Community College
•  Wake Technical Community College

Mammography is the imaging of the breast tissue for detection for abnormalities within the breast tissue by using radiation.
•  Mammography program is 1 semester long and have to be a registered radiography technologist

Community College options:
•  Edgecombe Community College
•  Wake Technical Community College

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a strong superconductive magnet to create a radiofrequency to send into the body to make a diagnostic image. MRI is best for muscle, tendons, and ligaments.
•  The MRI program is 1 year long
•  Must complete an associates program within imaging (Radiography, Ultrasound, or Nuclear Medicine)

Computer Tomography (CT Scan) is a diagnostic imaging procedure using x-rays and computer technology containing radiation to create images of the inside of the body. CT has great detail for bones, muscles, fat, organs, and blood vessels.
•  The CT is a 20 week program
•  Must complete an associates program within imaging (Radiography, Ultrasound, or Nuclear Medicine)

Nuclear Medicine (NM), also known as Nuc Med or NM, Nuc Med is obtained by injecting the patient with a radioactive material to see how organs are functioning or to target and destroy diseased organs. The images will allow doctors to see where the tracers are absorbed in the tissue.
•  NM is a 2 year program

•  Pitt Community College
•  Caldwell Community College

Ultrasound (US) is an imaging test that uses sound waves to get pictures of organs and tissues or other structures in the body. Ultrasound is commonly used for studying developing fetuses, looking for blockages in arteries or veins, and looking for abnormalities within the organ tissues. Ultrasound does not use radiation unlike x-ray/CT.
•  US is a 2 year program
