Construction at UNC Health Nash
At UNC Health Nash, we’re building more than just a new tower—we’re building a better experience for our patients, families, and care teams. This new seven-story inpatient tower will offer 150 private rooms, each with its own shower to support your comfort, privacy, and healing.
Thoughtfully designed nursing stations and expanded team areas will help our providers deliver care more efficiently, while allowing for more personal attention at your bedside. This state-of-the-art tower will be built in front of and seamlessly connected to our current South Tower, with direct access to the Surgical Pavilion. As our community continues to grow, our existing inpatient tower will be adapted for future services to meet your evolving needs.
To make getting here easier, we’re also redesigning parking, drop-off areas, and entrances so you and your loved ones can navigate the campus with ease.
Highlights of the Project:
- Construction began in 2025 and will take approximately 18 to 24 months.
- The tower is fully funded—no donations, grants, or tax dollars are required.
- Construction is progressing in carefully planned phases with oversight from the UNC Health Nash Board of Commissioners.

What’s Changed Due to Construction: Access, Parking & Entrances
As of March 2025, we made important updates to improve safety and access during construction of the new inpatient tower.
The main entrance to Nash General Hospital was temporarily closed. In its place, a new covered entrance through the lower level of the parking deck is now open, guiding you directly to our temporary main lobby. Whether you're coming for an outpatient X-ray or visiting a loved one, this entrance is now your central access point during construction.
Patients scheduled for outpatient procedures at Nash Day Hospital should continue using the dedicated entrance and lot. We’re here to help you find your way—just look for signage and parking attendants across campus.
What You’ll Notice:
- Patient and visitor parking is now on the lower level of the parking deck.
- Construction vehicles and equipment are located on the upper level.
- A new surface lot has opened across from the Emergency Department for ED, Heart Center, and Mayo Surgery guests.
- Hospital staff have moved to alternate parking areas to leave the most convenient spots for you and your family.
- Friendly attendants are on hand to guide you and ensure a smooth visit.

Surgery Check-In and Waiting Area Has Relocated
In February 2025, the Mayo Surgery Pavilion lobby closed, and we relocated surgery check-in to the adjacent Nash Heart Center. This shared space now serves both surgery and heart patients with two check-in desks clearly marked for your convenience—surgery on the left, heart care on the right.
We’ve designed this change to ensure the check-in experience remains seamless and comforting for you and your loved ones. Surgical guests still have 24/7 access to the Heart Center lobby throughout their visit.
Here’s What to Know:
- Park in the paved lot next to the parking deck for easy access to the new check-in area.
- Drop-offs for both surgery and heart care patients now happen at the Heart Center main entrance.
- The former Mayo Pavilion entrance is under construction—please follow signage and avoid blocked areas.
- For your safety, always use designated walkways and follow directional markers around construction zones.

Expanding Care in Nashville and Middlesex
We’re also expanding access to primary and urgent care across Nash County with two new medical office buildings—one in Nashville and one in Middlesex—breaking ground in summer 2025.
These new facilities will bring more providers into the communities we serve, making it easier for families to get timely, high-quality care without having to travel far.
Nashville Medical Office + Urgent Care:
- Conveniently located off Red Oak Road near US-64
- Eight primary care providers on site
- New urgent care for patients as young as 6 months—walk-in or by appointment
Middlesex Medical Office:
- Expanded building on Middlesex Corporate Parkway
- Eight primary care providers
- Existing clinic may be repurposed into a future urgent care
- Rotating specialty services like Orthopedics and Cardiology will grow as needed
Both locations are expected to open in 2026—Middlesex in July and Nashville in August—with community ribbon-cuttings planned to mark the occasion.

Our Commitment to Our Patients
We remain fully committed to providing exceptional patient care throughout the construction projects on our campus. We have carefully planned each phase to minimize disruptions and ensure that care standards are not impacted. Temporary adjustments to parking, entry points, and service locations will be managed with patient convenience in mind, and updates will be communicated clearly to keep our community informed.
As we build for the future, our focus remains on delivering the same high-quality service and compassionate care that our patients trust, ensuring that our facilities continue to maintain a safe and optimal environment for patients, families, and staff.
